Emaki · last updated 24 September 2026
Emaki is a free study tool, made by one person. These terms are short because there is not much to say.
A spaced repetition trainer for Japanese vocabulary, free to use, with no advertising and nothing to buy. There is no company behind it and no support desk. It is offered as it is, with no promise that it will be available, correct, or here forever.
Progress is stored in your browser, and also with Supabase if you choose to sign in. Please do not treat either as a safe place for anything you would hate to lose. Browsers clear storage, services have outages, and a free project is not a backup service. Privacy explains what is kept and how to remove it.
Sign in with an address you control, and do not use somebody else's. Accounts that are used to attack the service, or to abuse other people through it, can be removed.
Emaki is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Kaishi 1.5k or its authors. The 1,500 words, readings, meanings and example sentences come from the Kaishi 1.5k deck, used with the permission of its author, and they remain the work of that project rather than this one.
The mnemonics, usage notes and kanji breakdowns are original work, written for Emaki, and are published under CC BY-SA 4.0: reuse them, including commercially, as long as you credit them and keep them under the same licence. The app's own code is MIT. The detail is in the project README.
Emaki is provided without warranty of any kind, and its author is not liable for any loss arising from using it, to the extent the law allows. It teaches vocabulary; it does not promise you will learn any of it.
These terms can change, and the date at the top changes with them.
