He nods at somebody across the bar without using a name. The same そ- that means your side of things, with an いつ of contempt on it, and the way he says it tells you what he thinks: そいつ.
あいつ is over there, そいつ is nearer to you. 奴 やつ is the same idea with a character to write it.
