The deadline was going to go and then it did not, and nobody could tell you exactly how. Do ya どう reckon it got there? It got there: どうにか.
何とか なんとか is the near twin and often interchangeable. 何だか なんだか is a different word, somehow as in for some reason, and so are どうも and どうか, which is a plea.
