Take a 7 and tip it over backwards. Nana has seven of them on the mantelpiece, one china cat per grandchild: なな.

Worth knowing

なな is the safe default. しち holds on in 七月 しちがつ, but gets avoided otherwise because it's too easy to mishear as いち.
