Learning with a wall drawn the whole way round it, grounds and all, which is more than a school building. The same gawk がく as 学生, and an en えん of garden. Hers is out in the suburbs: がくえん.
学校 がっこう is the ordinary word for a school. 学園 is grander, a campus with grounds, and it turns up in the names of private ones.
