A roof over you and a bed underneath it, and that is the day finished with. Nay ね, ru る, and nobody is to wake him: ねる.
宀 a roof and a bed. 寝る is going to bed and lying down; 眠る ねむる is actually being asleep. You can 寝る all night without much 眠る.
