to be reflected, to appear
Light lands in the middle of the glass and something that is not in the room appears in it. The same うつ as hitting and firing, except that what lands here is a reflection. A man’s shadow, in the window: うつる.
現れる あらわれる is a thing actually turning up. 映る is an image of it landing on a surface, and it is the word for showing on a screen.
