げつようび
Monday
Moon 月 day, and English says precisely the same thing. The week runs on the old heavenly bodies: げつようび.
All seven: 月火水木金土日, moon, fire, water, wood, metal, earth, sun. English kept moon on Monday, Saturn on Saturday and sun on Sunday. The Romance languages kept the middle five as planets, and Japanese kept them as the elements those planets are named for.
