たてる
to put up, to erect
You stand the umbrella against the wall by the door and it stays exactly where you left it. The same tate たて as the 建物 that has stood longest in the country. Somebody had to do the standing: たてる.
立つ たつ is a thing standing on its own. 立てる is you standing it up.
