to remove clothes, to take off
Something comes away from the body and ends up folded over your arm. The coat, at the door, with a nougat ぬぐ wrapper still in the pocket: ぬぐ.
着る きる is putting clothes on. 脱ぐ is taking them off, shoes included, which matters at a Japanese front door.
