to hide, to disappear
The sun goes round the back of a cloud 隠 and the whole field turns grey. The cuckoo again, and this time nobody hid it: it went out of sight by itself: かくれる.
隠す かくす is you hiding something. 隠れる is the thing hiding itself, or just going out of view.
