Mnemonic

A blade on the right, and everything to its left is what the blade meets. The same きる as 着る putting clothes on, except that this one takes things apart: fold the paper, then take the scissors to it: きる.

Worth knowing

Same reading as 着るきる, to wear. Also switching off and cutting off: 電話を切る is hanging up. 傷きず is the noun, the cut that is left.
