A lid coming down onto a mouth, the two halves meeting exactly. The same あう as 会う meeting somebody, except that here it is the shoes meeting your feet: you walk the length of the shop without thinking about them once: あう.
Same reading as 会う あう, to meet. This one is things matching: shoes fitting, sums agreeing, 話が合う getting on with somebody. 合わせる あわせる is you making them match.
