うける
to receive, to accept
One hand reaching down and another reaching up, with the thing passing between them. The same うけ as 受け取る: your closest friend says it and you catch it full in the chest: うける.
Stretches to anything you're on the receiving end of. 試験を受ける is to sit an exam, 手術を受ける is to have an operation.
