Mnemonic

You take it and you stop it dead, both in the one movement. The same うけ as 受け取る and the same Tom とめ as 止まる. That one came in far too fast: うけとめる.

Worth knowing

もらう is receiving something you were given. 受け止める is stopping something that was coming at you.
